Description:  Here is an original photo left in its sepia color of the 1909 Alco-Brooks 4-6-2 Pacific #421. Originally it carried the number CIL 401 but was renumbered in 1911 to CIL #421. Note on the back states that it is heading up train 6. Specs - serial #46235, class K-3, 73" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 22x28" cylinders, engine weight of 205,000 lb, tractive effort of 31,559 lb. The class was later superheated and eventually all three in the class were off the roster by 1947. CIL #421 was retired on 10/4/1041. No photographer listed.

Description:  Caught sitting at the 63rd Street passenger platform is Chicago, Indianapolis & Louisville 4-6-2 Pacific #440. This Monon loco was built by Alco-Brooks in September of 1912 and served well for nearly 35 yeats before being bumped out of the roster when diesels came in under President John Walker Barriger III master upgrade. The loco was sold for scrap in April of 1948. Specs - serial #51674, class K-5, 73" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 23x28" cylinders, engine weight of 227,000 lb, tractive effort of 31,900 lb. According to the Monon Technical & Historical Society as well as www.SteamLocomotives.com, the loco was retired in 1947, contrary to the date for the photo as listed by the photographer, C.W. Description:  No info with this old print. The date is a very ruff estimate... The scene looks a bit like Whitefield but not from a common angle. In earlier photographs of this locomotive the generator is mounted ahead of the stack, here it looks to be back near the cab. The gondola appears to be MEC 8200 but the origional photo is rather fuzzy and I dont think MEC had any gondolas in this number range... /DL
