Both these cars were built by Budd in 1949-1950 in Lot #9660-039 to Pullman Plan #9522; the #1429 PACIFIC OCEAN was built in March 1950, was sold to Amtrak in 1971 as #2622, was converted to head end power (HEP) in 1980 as #2437, was retired in 2001 and sold to Illinois Transit Assembly (ITAX), which used it as a parts source; at last check, the PACIFIC OCEAN was still at the former ITAX, now Gateway Coach, facility in Madison, IL. Seen above and behind the string of boxcars is Union Station, which had closed the previous year with the start of Amtrak. At King Street, this train changed from running westbound on the Scenic Sub to running southbound on the Seattle Sub. Behind the ex-CB&Q power is a leased Cotton Belt GP35 and an ex-SP&S Alco C425. Description:  CB&Q 24 seat dome-46 seat leg rest chair #4722 SILVER STIRRUP, built by Budd in 1948 in Lot #9646-019 for the CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR as a CZ-22 car (the CZ-22 domes were the third of the three dome chairs per trainset). The SILVER STIRRUP was planned to be renumbered as BN #4686, but this was not applied, and it was sold to Amtrak in 1971 as #9456. It was retired in February 1984 and sold to the Alaska RR, where it was initially planned to become #7003, but instead became #7034. It was resold in October 1986 to Denver Railcar as DRCX #7034/#800334, and was used on several operations, including the Roaring Fork RR, the Texas Southern/TEXAS LIMITED, Mexican American Railways (charters based in Nogales), and the ACADIAN. Description:  Built in 1953 by Budd in Lot #9613-135 as AT&SF 48 seat leg rest chair #2835, 1 of 45 such cars (#2816-#2860) built in that Lot, which was ordered in September 1952; cars were delivered between September and December 1953. In 1971, Amtrak acquired 42 of these chairs as #4810-#4828 and #4850-#4872, the #2835 as #4827. In 1980, Amtrak converted 40 of these chairs to HEP as #4700-#4739, the #4827 was converted to #4714 in March of that year. In 1982-1983, Amtrak reconfigured 10 of these chairs to 88 seat coaches for the CLOCKER service, the #4714 was reconfigured to #7627 in March 1983. 3 of these reconfigured cars, including the #7627, were sold in 1997 to the Providence & Worcester. 2 of these 3 cars received names, the #7627 was named RHODE ISLAND. Description:  Amtrak 10 roomette-6 double bedroom (10RM-6DB) sleeper #2608 PACIFIC CREST. Built by Budd in January 1950 in Lot #9660-039 to Pullman Plan #9522 as UP PACIFIC CREST, later had #1410 applied, sold to Amtrak in 1971 as #2608, converted to head end power (HEP) in 1980 as #2436, retired in 2002 and sold to Illinois Transit Assembly (ITAX) in Madison, IL, now Gateway Coach. Scanned with an Epson V550 from an original Kodachrome 35mm slide.
