Sadly this photo shows the once useful Frisco 2-8-0 Consolidation #979 sitting in the scrap line awaiting the scrapper's torch which was applied during this month of 1948. This would literally be the last picture of it before disappearing in the cutting flames at the Springfield, MO, yard. Built by Baldwin in December of 1906, it had served the SLSF well for nearly 42 years. Description:
Good looking Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin) Consolidation type locomotive built in 1907. This class 1226 loco had small 57" drivers and developed a boiler pressure of 200 psi for its 22"x30" cylinders. The engine tipped the scales at a modest 207,000 lb and could apply a tractive effort 43,305 lb. In 1922, it was superheated by Frisco shops in 1922.

Description:
Parked in a scrap line is Frisco 2-8-0 #1232. Note it has already lost its headlight but the bell is still in place. Built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin predecessor) in October of 1907, the loco remained on the Frisco diagram book through 3/1/1947 before disappearing - assumed scrapped not long after this photo was taken by Arthur B. As the caption on the bottom states, this is a Mx Miller photo of Frisco 2-8-0 #1257 taken at Tulsa, OK. No date was given but it appears to be in the 1940's. Built by Baldwin in September of 1909, the loco was serial #33764 and 1226 class. The end came when it was sold for scrap in December of 1951.

Description:
This is a Baldwin 2-8-0 Consolidation, was built in December of 1909 as SLSF #1271, serial #34142 and class 1266. The loco served well and was even rebuilt in the 1920's. After nearly 42 years of service, the loco was sold for scrap in December of 1951. Rebuilt specs - 63" drivers, 190 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 237,000 lb, tractive effort of 51,987 lb. No photographer was lsited for the photo.
