Pic taken at sunset from VIA passenger train enroute to Saint Lambert and other destinations on the south side of the St. Lawrence River. Opened in 1859, the bridge was the first to span the St. Lawrence, and as such is an important historic bridge in Canada. It remains in use to this day, carrying both road and rail traffic, with rails in the middle and roadways (part of Route 112) on both sides. It is actively used by the Canadian National Railway on its Halifax to Montreal main line. It is a major contributor to Montreal's role as a continental hub in the North American rail system. Its designation for the CN is Mile 71.40 subdivision St-Hyacinthe. |

Rounding the bend at Franklin Curve. The trailing locomotive (CN 2669) on this distributed power intermodal was having serious problems that would eventually shut this train down. From radio scanner I learned train was heading for Brampton, but was forced to a siding to wait for the "diesel doc", likely stationed at nearby MacMillan yard in Concord, Ontario. |

After a mile or so hike, what a sight for a railfan - a string of 13 Wisconsin Central Railway 'hi-top' ballast-hoppers resting on the siding. I waited for 2 and a half hours hoping for a southbound CN freight. But the setting was so perfect, I just relaxed and enjoyed the scenery. |
