Album Info:This is a locomotive who has led a very interesting life! After retirement in 1951, SLSF 4-8-2 #1522 was selected for preservation and donated to the Museum of Transportation near St. Louis, MO in May of 1959. It sat on display for 30 years until being restored to operational condition by the St Louis Steam Train Association in April of 1988. The group ran a variety of excursions from October of 1988 through 2002 using SLSF #1522 as the power. Because of increased insurance rates and future expensive rebuild made it too expensive to run, it was retired back to the Museum again as a static display. Larry R. Stiles was present for many of the excursions it ran and these photos are from his color slides.
