Album Info:The Prairie du Chien branch ran from Madison to Prairie du Chien and included branchlines to Richland Center, La Farge and Sauk City/Prairie du Sac. The La Farge branch was abandoned by 1940. The Prairie du Chien line was once part of the Madison-Mason City mainline, but in 1961, the famous pontoon bridge over the Mississippi River was removed. The last train to cross the pontoon bridge was on October 31, 1961 with SD9 535. Operations in the 1970's consisted of out-one-day, back-the-next. Today, the mainline is thriving under the Wisconsin & Southern, but both branchlines have been abandoned.
