90s EMDs |
Description: |
BNSF 155 and 288 hide behind fences, poles, and MOW equipment in the rear of the Interbay Engine Terminal facility. These units would be considered interesting finds in most other places, so its only appropriate that theyre parked in the hardest area to photograph. This image was taken with a telephoto lens (116.2 Focal Length for anyone interested) from a small side road off Emerson Street. This road runs right past the Interbay deadine, and provided far-away views of the engine terminal. BNSF 288 is a 1997-built SD75I, while 155 was built in 1990 as a GP60M, and originally wore the Santa Fes iconic "Warbonnet" paint scheme. Note that the headlight on 155 is slightly offset to accomodate the crew door on the nose of the unit. In the background is a parked stack train awaiting fresh power, and further back is the Dravus Street overpass over the middle of the yard. |

The Interbay Deadline |
Description: |
Varied BNSF engines are massed at the Interbay engine terminal. The yard has long been a storage site and deadline for dozens of yard and local freight power. BNSF 2553, an ex-Santa Fe GP35 rebuild, is on the far left near the sand and fuel racks. On the other side of the service area is BNSF 1453, a BN SD60M now in H2 paint. In the right foreground is a line of stored GP38ACs and GP38-2s, two of which still wear my beloved Cascade Green. Further back are a GP60, SD75I, and GP35, all of Santa Fe/BNSF lineage. Farthest back is another line of stored engines, including a GP60B, ex-Frisco Geep, and even a diminutive SW1200, originally built for Northern Pacific in 1956. Of the 15 engines in this shot, only five appear to be in serviceable condition. The others are likely in for maintenance, being stored for a surge in traffic, or awaiting scrap. |
