Brent Jackson General OK.....we have here a Lehigh Valley Alco, a Maine Central U-boat and a B&M GP38......in July 1985? LV had been gone ten years by then, B&M was Guilfod by then too. Are you sure you got the date right? 3/2/2006 3:10:07 PM
Peter Hultgren General This picture is impressive. The variety of locomotive models and paint schemes makes this picture quite unique. As for the comment questioning the date of the picture, this is definitely Guilford System days (i.e. 1981 or later). Two units behind the Lehigh Valley engine is an engine painted for Guilford. So 1985 is possible. 1/24/2019 11:29:42 PM
Tom Beckett General This was a quite familiar scene in that era, and emblematic of the D&H roster at the time-a wild mix of everything that Guilford could get to run. The LV 409 was a D&H unit by then having come to the D&H along with some of their GP 38-2's at Conrail startup. That particular unit had the red paint over wear off on the engineer's side, and looked for all the world like the LV C420 it had once been. The MEC U 25B's had been acquired from the Rock Island estate, all of them getting the harvest gold treatment-I don't think any of them ran in Rock paint for very long, and I never saw one in that scheme-but the 225 did get painted Guilford. The B&M units were from an early 70's order, and were fairly common visitors, even prior to Guilford, as the ran through on the D&H routinely. Finding a solid set of power on the D&H in those days was a really unusual occurrence. But the variety was endless, and made for some interesting train watching. 1/25/2019 6:12:51 AM
