Rich Stasiak General Don't let the spoked wheels and siderods fool you! This is a one-of-a-kind multifuel turbine locomotive developed by the US Military around 1950. I think that it is the only turbine powered switcher in the world. Just like the big turbines on the UP, this little guy gulped fuel and needed a jet engine mechanic for a tune up. Thus, diesel-electric and diesel-hydraulic units were used in Europe during the Cold War. Lionel had a great model of this little girl during the 1950s and 60s. 11/15/2006 8:34:49 PM
John Hooper General Is this one of the models with adjustable axles to run on 5'3" & 3'6"? To tell you the truth Rich I though it was squirrel power. It was "hush hush" you know. If you look behind the grill there are 2 rotator cages that the squirrels run around on to provide power. But I could be wrong??? 11/16/2006 3:37:47 AM
Rick Morgan General This is the one-and-only Davenport 30 ton turbine-mechanical built for the Army as an experiment. It was equipped with two Boeing 502 gas turbines. The specification for this orphan says it's set for standard gauge only. After being tested by the Army at Ft Eustis for a couple of years it was stored, apparantly for the rest of its service. 7/24/2011 4:53:01 PM
