Norfolk Southern 202
Norfolk Southern train 202 crosses one of the channels of the Tennessee River at Bridgeport. The bridge to the left is the original bridge over the west channel, which the city of Bridgeport has converted into a walking trail between the city and Long Island. The east (shipping) channel is spanned by a lift bridge on the other side of Long Island. That bridge was originally built in 1932 for the L & N crossing of the Tennessee River at Danville, TN on the Memphis Line. In 1980, the L & N abandoned the bridge and barged the lift spant to Bridgeport to replace the old swing bridge. Other spans from Danville were removed and reused on the Clinch River crossing near Edgemoor, TN on the KD Sub north of Knoxville. There are still several spans left at Danville to potentially be reused elsewhere in the future.
