GN #1244 WHITE PINES LAKE
Built in 1951 by AC&F in Lot #3445 as GN Ranch Car #1244 WHITE PINES LAKE, 1 of 6 such cars (#1240-#1245) built in that Lot for the Mid-Century EMPIRE BUILDER, which was ordered in October 1949; cars were delivered between October 1950 and March 1951. The Ranch Cars had a 14 seat lunch counter, a 12 seat dinette, and a 18 seat lounge. #1240-#1242 and #1244-#1245 were owned by GN; #1243 was owned by CB&Q after 1953. In 1974, Amtrak acquired 4 of these cars as #8150-#8153; #1240 was scrapped and #1244 was sold to Arvid Benson. The #1244 was later resold to Ralph Day (Biddeford, ME), and in 2006, the car was moved from Maine to the The Depot Rail Museum in Columbus, OH. Scanned with an Epson V550 from a Kodachrome original 35mm slide. Exact date is approximate. Photographer is currently unknown.
