Built in 1949 by P-S in Lot #6808 to Plan #7593 as ACL 54 seat coach #239, 1 of 25 such cars built in that Lot, which was ordered in June 1946; cars were delivered between November 1949 and January 1950. ACL owned 20 (#228-#247), PRR owned 2 (#4043 & #4044, Plan #7593B), and RF&P owned 3 (#810-#812); ACL #247 was built for the IC CITY OF MIAMI pool with smooth sides. Amtrak acquired all 25 of these coaches, the ACL cars as #5450-#5469 (the SCL numbers), the PRR cars as #5443-#5444, and the RF&P cars as #5440-#5442. An additional 5 coaches (with 56 seats) were also built in this Lot for the FEC to Plan #7593A, which were sold to SAL in 1965, and were also acquired by Amtrak. #5461 was retired in 1979 and sold in 1981 to the Memphis Transportation Museum (Collierville, TN), and was acquired in 2012 by Iowa Pacific. Jerry LaBoda General ACL owned 31 coaches like this, smooth sided coach 249 was built 11/54 as a shell and finished by ACL's Rocky Mountain, N.C. shops, while 249 and 250 were corrugated shells, delivered Nov. 1954 and finished by ACL. 10/26/2014 5:01:42 PM
