Atlanta Rails General Great set of shots! How long did this operation last? Not many other pictures of it online. 6/14/2012 1:46:13 PM
Brian Connolly General I think I audibly gasped when I saw the track in this shot! Phenomenal shot from a thoroughly enjoyable album. Thanks again, Jim! 6/14/2012 10:30:35 PM
Robyn Watkins General For Nikos: This was actually the 3rd time around for the GCRR. The line first ceased operations in 1970 and was dormant for a few years. In 1974, a group restarted the GCRR, but operations were suspended again when flooding took out several bridges. The line was rebuilt in 1980-1981 and resumed operations, but shut down again in 1985, this time for good. Traffic was always minimal for the GCRR throughout its history, but by this point, the lumber mill that supplied the railroad with most of its traffic ceased operations for good, leaving the line with almost no traffic. The line was pulled up for salvage in 1987. 7/14/2012 9:45:34 AM
