Looking east
Title:  Looking east
Description:  A cropped Post Card scene. The card is postmaked Oct 7th 1905 West Dresden, Me so the scene is 1905 or a bit earlier... Richmond is on the old MEC Lower Road between Brunswick & Augusta. This track is owned by the State of Maine today with no regular service although the State recently rehab’d the line and runs ocassional passenger specials over it. There has been talk of regular passenger service to Augusta. /DL

Waiting for the train
Title:  Waiting for the train
Description:  This picture post card scene simply says – Dresden Station, Dresden, ME. – which seems rather intersting to this native of the Penobscot Valley since the MEC ran past Dresden on the other (west) side of the Kennebec River. My 1963 MEC track chart shows Dresden as being at MP 48.23 or about half way between Richmond & South Gardner on the lower road. This would place this station in the town of Richmond in the area of east of Iceboro. Perhaps this is why this appears to be a flag stop. A motivated Dresden resident would have to row or swim across the river to climb aboard. Any fine tuning of these thoughts is welcome... ! The date is an estimate. /DL

Mile P52.8
Title:  Mile P52.8
Description:  South from S.Gardiner.... There are 3 box cars spotted in this scene from left to right the 1st is a READING, the second is PL&E and the third with the double door is NYC 77158.... It is difficult to make out on the origional but the signal box appears to be designated 528 which agrees with my track chart for MP 52.8. The whistle post would be for a private crossing at about MP 52.7. Beside the signal in the distance is a whistlel post. /DL
