Album Info:Here are twelve original photos that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in or near Birmingham, Pennsylvania, between 1965 and 1968. This particular "Birmingham" is located just East of Tyrone on State Route 453. These color slides are presented in the order that I took them.

Description:  Birmingham. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train near Birmingham, Pennsylvania, on 10 July 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5765, #5714, #5889, #5856, and #5867. All were built by EMD. #5765 and #5714 are EP-22's built in 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5889 is an EP-22 built in 1950 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5856 and #5867 are EP-20's rated at 2,000 horsepower each; #5856 was built in 1948, but #5867 was built in 1949. They are pulling a 48-car westbound mail/express train. This photo was taken at the stone quarry crossing, just off of State Route 453.

Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2262, #2223, and another unit whose number is not visible. All were built by EMD. #2262 is an EF-25 built in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2223 is an EF-22 built in 1963 and rated at 2,200 horsepower. They are pulling a 76-car eastbound merchandise train with caboose #477270. This photo was taken at the stone quarry crossing, just off of State Route 453.

This photo was taken where State Route 453 bridges both the railroad tracks and the Little Juniata River.

Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #6016, #2536, and another unit whose number is not visible. #6016 is an SD-35 built by EMD in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2536 is a U-25B built by General Electric in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are pulling a westbound mixed-cargo freight train. Note the "ribbon rail" placed between the tracks, ready for future installation.

Description:  Birmingham. Here is an original photo that I took of a Penn Central Railroad train near Birmingham, Pennsylvania, during May of 1968. Shown here are PC engine #2256 and Southern Pacific Railroad engine #4068. Both were built by GM-EMD. #2256 is a radio-equipped GP-35 built in May of 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #4068 is a GP-20 built in 1962 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They are pulling a westbound autorack train. Lots of new Chrysler products on-board! Also visible on the right are my Penn State geology buddies George Howorth and John "Rob" Powanda. (Many thanks to Mr. James Taylor for identifying the Southern Pacific unit!)

This photo was taken where the tracks bridge the Little Juniata River west of the stone quarry crossing, just off of State Route 453.
