Album Info:Here are two original photos that I took of the "Magna Carta Special" at the Pennsylvania Railroad Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 29 June 1961. Mr. Morton S. Smith ~ PRR's Regional Vice-President ~ addressed a small crowd at the Station about the need for a "Magna Carta" for American Railroads. Issues that he spoke about included the need for equal regulation for all freight and passenger carriers, the right of railroads to diversify their revenue portfolios, and the need to end government subsidies for competing transport modes.
